As principal of Alethea Studio, Eben Hewitt is a regular guest lecturer at Harvard Graduate School extension for courses such as Case Studies in Digital Enterprise. Eben Hewitt’s best-selling book, Technology Strategy Patterns, is taught in courses at Harvard Graduate School, UC Berkeley, Florida Institute of Technology, and others.
Eben Hewitt designs large-scale, mission-critical systems and leads teams to build them. He previously served as Chief Architect and CTO at Sabre Hospitality, CTO at Choice Hotels and CIO of O'Reilly Media.
He has been a consultant to Warburg Pincus on distributed data and a frequent invited speaker at conferences including MIT’s Sloan School of Business CIO conference, Software Architecture (NYC and London), JavaOne, Strange Loop, and many others. Eben was introduced by Walter Isaacson to speak at AH&LA Forum in DC.
Eben Hewitt is the author of several books, including Semantic Software Design (2019), Technology Strategy Patterns (2018), Cassandra: The Definitive Guide (3 editions), Java SOA Cookbook, and others. He is a contributor to the book 97 Things Every Software Architect Should Know. His books have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, and Persian and have been taught at Georgia Tech.
Eben Hewitt is a member of the Dramatist’s Guild and a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. His first full-length play, Mouthbook, was produced in NYC at the Mint Theater and starred Shea Whigham and Kirk Acevedo, directed by Andrew Frank. He is co-creator (book & lyrics) of a full length musical theater piece, Beautiful Things.
